Anderson Ocean Club & Spa Review
Stay Date: Early June 2026
Room Type: 3-Bedroom Oceanfront Condo – 20th Floor
Our family recently spent a week at Anderson Ocean Club & Spa in Myrtle Beach, and overall, it provided the relaxing beach getaway we were looking for. While there were a few areas that fell short compared to other Hilton Grand Vacations properties we’ve visited, the spacious accommodations and oceanfront views created lasting memories for our family.
The Room
We stayed in a 3-bedroom oceanfront unit on the 20th floor, and the views alone made the stay worthwhile. The condo offered plenty of space for our family, with each bedroom having its own bathroom. One of the biggest wins for us was that one of the bedrooms featured two queen beds, which worked perfectly for our kids.
The kitchen offered the traditional HGVC setup we’ve come to appreciate, providing everything needed for preparing meals during the week. The one odd thing was the fridge opend towards the open kitchen, which made you have to walk around the kitchen to access. (Be sure to check out our Ultimate Condo Box checklist for a few additional packing items that make condo vacations even easier.)
The balcony was another highlight, offering access from both the living room and the master suite. Morning coffee overlooking the Atlantic quickly became part of our daily routine. You could see a fireworks show just south that started at 9pm.
Room Drawbacks
The biggest disappointment was the master bathroom. Surprisingly, it was the smallest of the three bathrooms and felt cramped compared to the rest of the spacious condo. We also missed having a large soaking tub, which is something we’ve enjoyed at other Hilton Grand Vacations resorts.
Parking
Self-parking is located in a garage about a block away from the resort. While it isn’t attached to the building, the walk was reasonable and easy to navigate. Valet parking is available for those who prefer it.
One positive surprise was that parking never felt crowded. We consistently found spots on the third or fourth floor without difficulty. (The first two floors are reserved for valet parking.)
Lobby & Common Areas
This was probably the most underwhelming aspect of the resort.
Unlike some other HGVC properties, Anderson Ocean Club doesn’t have much common gathering space. There is a small café available for coffee and quick bites, but there isn’t a true restaurant, lounge, or central gathering area for families or groups to relax outside of the pool and beach areas.
Pool Area
The pool complex offers several pools and hot tubs, providing plenty of options for relaxing. However, I wouldn’t describe the pool experience as luxurious.
When compared to properties like Ocean 22 or the Enclave, the pool area simply feels more basic and less upscale. That said, there were always plenty of chairs and towels available, which was a major plus during the kickoff to summer.
The kids especially enjoyed the Italian ice stand on the pool deck, and the small lazy river provided entertainment for younger children, although its design felt a bit unusual and limited.
Pro Tip: Wear sandals or water shoes when walking to the restroom areas. The concrete pathways near the stairs became blisteringly hot during the afternoon.
Beach Access
Beach access was excellent.
A convenient shower station near the pool deck made it easy to rinse off sand before heading back inside. Like many Myrtle Beach resorts, the decking and sand became extremely hot during the day, so footwear is highly recommended.
The city-operated beach chair and umbrella rentals were available directly in front of the resort for approximately $50 per day, with discounts for multi-day rentals.
One unexpected highlight was the abundance of shells and shark teeth along the shoreline. If your family enjoys beachcombing, don’t forget to pack a shark tooth sifter.
The nearby pier remains under construction, so occasional construction noise could be heard, but it never became disruptive during our stay.
Pool Bar
The pool bar offered fantastic ocean views and consistently friendly service.
The drink selection included a variety of cocktails and canned beers, although one notable omission was Aperol—meaning no Aperol Spritz during our visit.
Happy Hour specials were available Monday through Friday from 3 PM to 5 PM.
HGVC Owner Perks
If you’re an HGVC owner, make sure to stop by the concierge desk.
Some of the complimentary and discounted offerings available during our stay included:
- Daily miniature golf across the street
- Access to a local water park
- One-day admission to the Grand Prix Family Thrill Park for go-kart racing
- Discounts at select local restaurants
These perks added extra value to our stay and were worth taking advantage of.
Elevators
With six elevators available (three on each side of the lobby), wait times were rarely an issue—even during busy periods.
One thing to note: the elevator doors close quickly, so don’t hesitate to hold the door if others are joining your group.
A Few Areas for Improvement
A few things stood out during our stay that could be improved:
- Hot water took several minutes to reach the room, often requiring us to run multiple showers before warm water arrived.
- The smell of marijuana was frequently noticeable during evening hours around the property and nearby sidewalks.
- There are limited dining and nightlife options within easy walking distance, resulting in several drives off-property for a good meal.
- While the condo was clean and comfortable, it felt slightly dated compared to other HGVC properties we’ve visited.
- Our scheduled mid-week cleaning was missed, requiring us to call housekeeping to have it completed.
- Television options were fairly basic. The rooms offered standard cable and a DVD player, but no built-in streaming capabilities unless guests bring their own streaming device.
Final Thoughts
Anderson Ocean Club & Spa delivered a memorable family vacation with incredible ocean views, a spacious three-bedroom layout, and direct beach access. While the resort met our needs and provided a comfortable home base for a week in Myrtle Beach, several shortcomings; including dated common areas, a basic pool experience, limited walkable dining options, and service inconsistencies kept it from earning a higher rating.
Would we stay here again? Probably not.
After visiting Ocean 22 and the Enclave during our trip, those properties simply offered a more elevated resort experience with stronger amenities and more upscale common areas. However, if Anderson Ocean Club is available and you’re looking for a spacious oceanfront condo in Myrtle Beach, it remains a solid option for families wanting direct beach access and plenty of room to unwind.
